Special Holiday Nails!

Friday, was nail polish day for my Mom. Mom loved her nails being done today because each finger nail was polished green and red. She kept showing everyone how cool she looked. She even said to everyone how cool she looked. She is wearing her Christmas bell and her Christmas wreathe that I made for her and the rest of the Oldies and Goodies from American House. So many people keep telling me how nice I have my Mom looking, especially during the holidays. They all call her American Houses's Little Christmas Elf.  I will do anything to see my mom happy and healthy. I am so blessed to have an amazing husband and son who are always by my side helping Mom.
Mom our Christmas Elf... who we love so much..
There's Mom's fancy nails.. she is already for Christmas...

Mom is our Christmas Elf....

Friday, we went to visit Mom at American House. When we got there she was sitting in a chair smiling at everyone who entered the front door. She always gets so excited when she sees someone she knows. She acts like she has not seen us for years.. and it has only been a day or so. Mom loves to   wear bright clothes, and loves to have her photos to be taken. Each time I show her pictures of her, she will always say that she looks like a Little Doll!

Her she is with her Elf Buddy Barb..

Mom is telling me in Armenian how this coffee tastes very good.
Mom loves her Santa hat and especially her bells I made for her.
She also has Christmas socks on... My little Christmas Elf.. I sure love her..
She sure makes a cute Elf... and she knows it too. She told me that she looks so cute....
Mom always loves her photos to be taken... I think she thinks she is a movie star at American House.
Look at that smile.. she may not know me or others but she sure looks happy for being 89 years old.

Mom and Her Buddies enjoying a sucker...... Yes... a toostie roll sucker..

Dot just kept sucking on her sucker and enjoying each taste.
Barb was telling me the last time she had a taste of a sucker when she was a little bitty girl.
Melba kept telling me I made her day......
Faye , went up to Mom and Phylis telling her how much she loved Lucy.

Last Friday , we went to see Mom as usually. We brought some of her friends suckers to eat.  We made sure that they did not have any sugar problems or that it would make them sick. You would not believe what a hit those suckers were. Many of the oldies and goodies had tears in their eyes of wonderful memories of sucking on a sucker when they were little kids. I had to remind some of  them what to do with the suckers and once they tasted how yummy they were, they would close their eyes and enjoyed the taste and the memories it gave them each.  It was a wonderful feeling to walk away knowing I put a smile on many faces today, and yet Mom had no idea what she was tasting.... but she was Happy.....

Decorating Mom's Door For Fall...

Mom was smiling all over the place tonight.
Mom loved decorated her door for fall, but especially putting the pretty fall leaves all over her door.
Last Wednesday we took some goodies for Mom to eat and several boxes of fall decoration  to decorate her apartment and front door for Fall. She was so excited to see all the wonderful fall things we brought for her. Mom loved decorated her door especially putting up all the fall leaves. She was like a little girl getting ready for a birthday party. Mom could not wait until someone would knock on her door and see how cute it looked. The simple thing like decorating a door made her smile, laugh, and so happy. We were so glad to see her smiling all over the place that night.

A Visit to Henry Ford's Estate

It has been awhile since I have been on my blog regarding Mom. We have had our ups and downs with mom, but somehow God has given us the strength to be able to deal each with her. Today, she had to go to the dentist because she had two cavities. We were all so nervous how she would be able to deal with the procedure. Kris went with her because she is used to having him with her at the dentist. The procedure did not take long and supposedly Dr. Ed did not have to numb her mouth. I still can't understand how he did it, unless he decided the cavities were small and could wait for awhile. Kris asked him how everything turned out and he said fine. Before we picked her up, she was crabby with me. To tell you the truth she is always crabby with me. I am not her favorite child.... my brother is. When we got to her apartment to pick her up for the dentist, she continued asking where my brother was. It got so bad I just had her call him, hoping she would understand that he was not coming to take her to the dentist. Knowing this, Mom got more crabbier with me. After the dentist we took her to the Henry Ford historic home to see his house, and his garden of beautiful flowers. She loved it and kept telling us all that she had been there with her husband and father.  We never told her she was wrong, we just continued having her feel that she had been there with two important people that she loved so long ago. After the walk and her adventure through the property,  Mom left with her own memories.

We then took her to her favorite place to eat Moro's in Allen Park. She loves eating there, and its one of her favorite places to eat. She feels comfortable there and she knows everyone that works there. She asked Marc the waiter what should she order and he told her to order the dinner that she usually gets most of the time when she comes. Wow... when she got her dinner and had one bite, dinner went down the drain for all of us. She complained how her meal was horrible. We all tried to have her take one of our meals and nothing made her happy. From that moment we knew we would not stop at her favorite place, Krispy Kreme Donuts. We took her straight home, and she could not wait until we left. Mom did not realize we couldn't wait to leave either. Tomorrow is another day, and I hope Mom has a better day for all of us.

This is Henry's Ford's Estate, and Mom wanted to know if she every was inside of the house.

I picked some flowers from Henry Ford's Estate, and I know I was not supposed to pick their flowers. Check out her face, she loved the flowers.

Mom kept knocking on Henry's door, and she was hoping someone would open the door and let her in.

She kept peeking in the door window hoping she would see someone walking down the dark hallway to answer the door.

There was a very small house on the property that Henry Ford had built for children to go into during the State Fair.

Mom was getting upset because once again the door was locked, and she could not venture in.

Mom loved the rush the water from the dam.

Mom kept turning around and checking everything out. She was very interested to see where Henry lived once.

She kept asking many questions, and if she did not like the answers she would get a little annoyed. She wanted everyone to know that she had the facts right about Henry.

Kristofer kept making sure Mom would not fall, and kept trying to make her laugh. He was hoping she would stop being crabby and start relaxing and have some fun.

Mom walking down her long hallway, and when she got to her door she could not wait until she was in her apartment.

Mom Gave Us a Surprise!

Today we decided to surprise Mom in the afternoon. I have this funny knock and when she hears it she knows it's me. My brother and his family went to Italy which caused a lot of problems with Mom. She missed him and could not understand why he was not visiting her. Remember Greg is her favorite child. Many of the days he was gone she would not get dressed, leave her room, take a shower, or eat. We went to try and cheer her up. I did my special knock and when she answered the door, this is what she looked like. She had her pj's on and there must have been twelve scatter pins that were from all the different holiday's, on her pjs. The first thing she said to us was... DON'T  I look like a doll? I told her the truth.. she did look like a doll... Happy...

Now... she does look like a DOLL.

The 4th of July with Mom..

The 4th of July was a beautiful summer day, and Mom was very sad my brother was not home yet from his vacation. We thought we would get her out of her apartment and bring her to our house for dinner. She first thought she was at Greg's house, and it took a while for her to understand it was our house. Throughout the day she kept saying she did not realize that we lived in such a nice house. She loved being on the deck and looked down at the trees, and loved the flowers around the porch.  Mom kept telling me how I need to take care of the flowers better. She told me that she knows more about flowers than I do, because she was a teacher. Mom ate very well, and we called her Miss Piggy. We took her home with a smile.

Mom kept telling me how I should be taking better care of our flowers.

She kept laughing and having fun at the picnic at our house.

Look at that smile.. you know she was having fun.

Friday is Nail Day

Every Friday, I usually do Mom's nails. She has fun picking some wild nail polish color.  It is very, very hard to polish her nails, because she keeps moving and her nails get all messed up.  After her nail time we usually bring her some Armenian food to eat. The food makes her remember when she cooked. She starts talking about the times she would make that particular Armenian Food at home for all of us. .
Mom's pretty nails making her look so cool. Such a Diva.
Eating Armenian Food that we made for her.
Telling us how she would cook Armenian Food for her family.
Mom is smiling because of us talking about her husband, and how great he was to all of us.
She decided to go down and check out what was for dinner in the dining room. She was happy and was having fun just being with her friends. She usually does more talking then eating.  All I am happy  about is that she is smiling.. and HAPPY..

Ice Cream Sundae Party at American House..

Today at American House they had a small ice cream sundae party for anyone that liked ice cream and of course who can eat ice cream. Not many Oldies and Goodies came, but I was happy that Mom came.  She loves her ice cream.  Everyone made their own sundaes and yes there were some that were picky even at their age.  It was a fun time,  and many had seconds... including Mom.
Mom wanted to sit by herself for awhile. She was not sure if she wanted to stay.

Yes.. in this photo you could see she was happy she stayed. The ice cream sundae was delicious.

Everyone was into their sweet dessert....

Cinco de Mayo

Mom clapping her way with happiness....

 Smiling and enjoying the entertainment.

Mom now standing up and singing to the songs...

Look at that smile... she is so happy...

Now Mom is going to table to table enjoying this special day with her friends.

 Now Mom is dancing....

Mom has taco's and you notice she is not eating it. Never liked Mexican food.

Of course... we have Tank celebrating with all the Oldies and Goodies...

 Tank is smiling at you..

Roy had so much fun.. he now is taking a nap at the party.

Tank had to lay down too to take a quick nap from all the fun he had at the party.

It looks like Mom is slowing down. and now she is in her thinking mood....in her own little  world.

Mom listening to the music... and looks like she is getting tired of all this excitement.

There's Carl.. he knows when my camera eye is on him.

Mom is still moving around making sure everyone is Okay..

Mom is so happy she is starting to cry.

Mom loves to show everyone how much she loves them.

Some girl talk.. or should I say some Oldies but Goodies talk.

Mom hand to tell her everyone what they missed by not going to the party. Tom is laughing how adorable she is.

Ending the day with Carl's big smile... and his Cinco de Mayo hat almost falling from his head.

Mom and some of her friends at American House and a fun day celebrating Cinco de Mayo especially when she could wear a hat. Many of the Oldies and Goodies did not know what they were celebrating about but it was a fun party for everyone especially my mom. They had a man playing a guitar and Mom danced and sang. Yes, she knew all the words to all the songs, and even asked several ladies  to dance with her. There are not many men there that can dance with her so I guess at that moment she did not care if she danced with a lady.  She looked for her friend Jim who is my age to dance with but he was not there to celebrate this special day. They had made taco's for everyone.  Mom nibbled on it but she never liked Mexican food. All I can say about such a happy event was everyone had fun, and everyone was smiling including Mom.
