A Fun Day at Grace Hall With Pizza.... Yes.. Mama Lucy Fell...

Thank you Elicia, Wanda and the rest of the staff for planning such a Fun Day at Grace Hall. Pizza Party, making yummy pies, and what a way to celebrate Grandparents Day!

Yes... I know so many of you see Mama Lucy Lou with a black eye and all bruised up. She fell getting out of a chair yesterday. One of the staff members saw her start to fall, and yelled for the person near her to catch her... It was Too Late! She hit the ground with a bang!

It was no ones fault, Mama Lucy Lou has a mind of her own, and decided to get up from the chair. Many of our love ones that have this horrible disease will fall all the time. As they get older with this disease they are a lot weaker and have so many problems even walking.

The staff there were so amazing as always. in how they took care of my mom. They wanted us to get her checked out at the hospital, and my brother and one of my nephew's Anthony took her there. She did have a cut on her forehead that had to be glued, and the doctor told them just to keep an eye on her. We knew Mama Lucy was in the best place with such a caring staff that love her

Even though she may look all bruised up, she stills had that sweet smile on. Yes, she has a big slice of cherry pie, and a yummy slice of pizza. My Mom may have this dreadful disease but she still smiles, and she is so happy,,,,, and its because the staff at the Gilbert Residence is so loving and caring there.
Thank you everyone who works at the Gilbert Residence for the care you give Mama Lucy Lou and the rest of the Buds.

Decorating Mom's Door For Fall...

Mom was smiling all over the place tonight.
Mom loved decorated her door for fall, but especially putting the pretty fall leaves all over her door.
Last Wednesday we took some goodies for Mom to eat and several boxes of fall decoration  to decorate her apartment and front door for Fall. She was so excited to see all the wonderful fall things we brought for her. Mom loved decorated her door especially putting up all the fall leaves. She was like a little girl getting ready for a birthday party. Mom could not wait until someone would knock on her door and see how cute it looked. The simple thing like decorating a door made her smile, laugh, and so happy. We were so glad to see her smiling all over the place that night.

Mom's Accident.....So hard to see her in such pain

Well... haven't been on my blog regarding Mom for awhile been too busy with Mom. Sunday we got a call from American House and it turned out she fell and she was being sent by an ambulance to St. Mary's Hospital in Livonia. We all were a mess when we got to the hospital with worry. When we arrived to the emergency we saw the pain she was in and Mom usually is not a complainer, even when she broke both legs she hardly complained. Now she is crying and and yelling at us regarding the pain she is in.

I have heard many horrible things about St. Mary's Hospital, and now I really feel it is all true. First, they would not give her any pain meds until  Kristofer, our son, who is an emergency nurse at U of M got involved. Kris never gets involved until he feels he can't see someone in pain any longer. When the staff at the hospital knew he worked at U of M they started doing what he suggested them to do. Wow... Mom started relaxing and she was beginning to handle some of the pain.

After nine hours they admitted her to the hospital.  Mom was so confused and she could not understand where the pain was coming from. Finally, she fell asleep and the family left her hoping she would get enough sleep that would  help her to heal. The next day she was in so much pain, and so confused, and so angry. The doctor talked to Kristofer and said that Mom was crazy and needed special help. Kristofer told the doctor in a respectful way that he did not know Mom's health history, and when doctor calls her primary doctor he will understand why Mom is like this.

Now its Tuesday, and Mom has a had a sitter since Monday to keep an eye on her during the day and at night. I talked to both ladies and they said she was in better spirits and the pain is somewhat bearable. When Tom and I walked in her room she was sound asleep and I knew if I woke her up she would get into that angry mood and would blame me that she was there.  The nurse named Summer said Mom was in better spirits and not on powerful meds today. Monday when we had talked to the social worker, Barb.  We had to give her three top nursing homes that we would want to put Mom to get the help she needs to heal, when released from the hospital. Tom, Kristofer and I went to so many nursing homes, and to tell you the truth some of them are so nasty I would not put a skunk in their place. We will wait until tomorrow to find out if the doctor on her floor will discharge her, and when he does they will take her to the nursing home.

Since the accident I have not slept because I wanted to know just how this happened to her. First, American House said a residence in a wheel chair found her laying by her apartment door. The paramedics that brought her into the hospital were told the caretakers saw her get hit by the door and she fell.  Seeing no one knew how she good hurt the doctor had to get her head and her body scanned to see what was wrong with her. It ended up being her Humorous bone that's between her shoulder and arm that was broken.

After we saw Mom today we went to American House to get some clothes for her and clean out her refrigerator. I asked Cathy who had found Mom and she said it was Carl the man who does not have any teeth but has the most sweetest smile. He is in a wheel chair and he is a World War II Veteran who loves wearing his medals. I went up to him and gave him a big hug and told him and whoever was sitting nearby call him Lucy's Hero! I also told him how happy we were how he helped Mom and the next time he wants to go out to dinner with American House it will be on us. He smiled and said WOW!
