It was Mom's friend Melba's birthday on January 10th. What a personality she has. She is 89 years old, and not too happy about having her birthday again. I found out she does not have any family left. Her only child died by being electrocuted and her husband died when he was 52 years old. She never knew her dad because he died when she was two. She was the youngest of seven kids, and lived in the Houghton area of Michigan.
I decided to crochet her a shawl, and get her a cupcake. Yes..a chocolate one, and I did make sure she could eat sweets. She was so excited and sad at the same time when we went to her apartment to celebrate her special day. I made Mom give her the gifts, and of course Mom felt so proud and happy to have such an important job. Melba is always cold and Tom and I thought having her have a nice warm shawl to keep her nice and toasty would be great. She kept telling me that this would be her last birthday and she would not be celebrating any more. She has eleven months to get to Heaven. She did not want to get to 90 years old. She feels she has no purpose to live. I kept telling her that she was not ready to get her angel wings, but she would get mad at me because she did not want me to hold her back from going to Heaven. Melba is such a firecracker and makes us laugh and she is a big flirt with the younger men. She does not like her man not to have any teeth, and she would do anything to have one to keep her warm. When we go to visit Mom I look forward in seeing her, and several other great people there. I realize that its a place that many people don't stay too long, or your always saying goodbye to someone who becomes an angel.
Here is Mom helping Melba with her new Shawl.
Here Melba is telling us this will be her last birthday... she wants to go to Heaven soon.
Here she is not too happy with me when I told her that I don't want her to leave us. God wants her to stay to make us laugh...... and enjoy her love that she gives us.
Each day is a blessing for all those Oldies but Goodies....and most of them feel it would be a blessing to get their angel wings and fly in Heavens Gates.
